How do I tag my products with sustainability attributes (Global and Supplier)?

There are two methods to assign attributes to a catalogue item(s), a process known as tagging, which are laid out in this guide:

  • Via the product data template (best for bulk uploads)
  • Via the product edit screens (best for individual products / very small numbers)
Always ensure that the global or supplier attribute has already been created / is available to you in the Attribute Editor with 'Product' tag level assigned before trying to tag your products to it.

Tagging products using the product data template

The first and most commonly used approach is to add the attribute information to your product data template, following the same process as you would when uploading or updating your product information.

For guidance on how to upload a product data file (including how to download the latest product data template), please access the relevant guide here.

We strongly recommend you keep a master copy of all sustainability attribute tagging you assign against your products to begin with as sustainability attribute data is not yet available from the Catalogue Export functionality (but will be coming soon).
  1. In the product data template, create a brand new column for each attribute you need to tag a product or products against, ensuring that only one attribute is used per column.
Remember to ensure that at least the yellow mandatory columns are included / filled in if you aren't wanting to update all product data fields (but ensure any other columns are deleted from the template before uploading, otherwise you risk overwriting your data with blank entries).
  1. The column header / name should be prefixed by either a 'S:' or 'G:' in order to identify whether the attribute is supplier defined or globally defined PLUS the shortname for the attribute in question.
The 'S:' or 'G:' prefixes can be capital letters or lower case; The system will accept either.
  1. To locate the shortname, you will need to check the attribute's information on the Attribute Editor. Locate the attribute in question and click View Details:
  2. The example above is a supplier attribute and so the column header would need to be inputted as 'S:RecyclablePackaging'. A global attribute would look like 'G:Fairtrade'.
  3. To complete the column(s), input either Y or N depending on whether each item is to be tagged with that attribute or not. If a cell is left empty i.e. no Y or N value, then the existing tagging information that is held for that catalogue item (if any) will be left unchanged:
  4. Save your file as .csv, .xls or .xlsx and upload via the Catalogue Management tab as normal.
  5. Once uploaded successfully no further steps are required from you as a supplier. Each of your connected buyers will then need to map this data / the attribute it sits under within their attribute editor in order for this data to be visible to their end-users at product level on their marketplace.

Individual Item Tagging

In addition to tagging products with attributes in bulk via the Catalogue Management tab, tags can be added or removed from items on an individual basis.

  1. In the supplier portal, use the search bar at the top of the page to locate the item you wish to tag. You can enter a catalogue number, manufacturer part no. or key word(s):
  2. From the search results page, select an item to edit:
  1. From the individual product's page, click the Edit Product button on the top right hand side:
  2. Click the Sustainability tab
  3. From here, you can review any tags the product has already been assigned to and add or remove tags as needed. In the example below, this item has both attributes 'Recycle Scheme 1 - Partial return' and 'Bio Preferred' assigned against it already:
    1. The search box allows you to find attributes in the hierarchy to tag. Depending on how an attribute is set up, you may need to expand a sub-folder to locate it. Ticking its box will add the attribute to the item:
    2. To remove an attribute tag from an item, click the 'X' next to the attribute.
  4. Click Update to save the changes.
