Buyer Admin: How do I map sustainability attributes (supplier and global)?

AD team Updated by AD team

How do I map / group attributes together for my end users?

As suppliers are able to upload their own attributes and every buyer's requirements for sustainability may differ, in order to provide you with control over what your end users see, before any sustainability information is visible on your Purchasing marketplace, you MUST complete a mapping exercise. This is done within the Attribute Editor.

To clarify, this means that even if a supplier has uploaded all of their sustainability data exactly as you would wish to see it, it will not be visible to your end-users until you have mapped it.
This applies to Global, Supplier AND Buyer attributes

Existing mappings can be located in the Attribute Hierarchy Editor, under your own buyer folder (always at the bottom of the list on the left hand side). In the example below the organisation is called 'My Buyer':

To create a new mapping:

  1. From the Purchasing homepage, go to the Admin dropdown and select Attribute Hierarchy Editor
  2. Click the blue Create new dropdown button and select Mapping
  3. Complete the details in the new mapping form:
    1. Mapping name: This will be the name that your end users can see on the marketplace so should be clear and concise
    2. Mapping description: A brief description of the mapping so that end users can see further information
    3. Upload image: This can be dragged in or uploaded from your computer (optional)
    4. Mapping Scope: Choose Item Level or Supplier Level depending on which type of mapping you need. A mapping can only contain one of these types as the mappings for each are presented and used in different ways for end users.
    5. Select attributes to map: Use the search bar to locate the name of the attribute(s) that you want to include in this mapping, using the tick box to select them. You can select and unselect more than one at a time.
    6. Mapping options tick boxes: Mappings can be used in different contexts to give flexibility. Use the tick boxes to determine this, selecting one or multiple of these per mapping:
      1. Data is shown in Insights
      2. Appears as a search filter option to end user (example below)
      3. Shows item with a sustainable item icon in search results. This is to allow a distinction between major and minor attribute groups. Major attributes being those that signal an item is considered sustainable and minor being those that have some bearing on sustainability but not enough to consider the item as sustainable.
      4. Visible on supplier information page (example below)
  4. Click Create mapping

Depending on the tick box options you chose at the bottom of the Create Mapping form, your mapping will become instantly visible on your marketplace. For example, on the Browse Suppliers search page, a dropdown will become available as soon as your first mapping is added for end-users to search directly under, and this will be added to each time thereafter:

Additionally, for any product / item level attributes that have been included in the mapping, the information for this will appear within the product pages under the Sustainability tab:

For mappings that cover product level attributes, a green leaf icon will also appear in the search results pages:

The green leaf icon will not appear for supplier level global attributes that have been mapped. Those will only appear on the sustainability tab of a supplier's information.

How do I edit an existing mapping?

If you need to amend any information pertaining to a mapping, such as mapping a new supplier attribute or removing one, please follow the steps below:

  1. Locate the mapping in question within the Attribute Editor on your marketplace. It will always be sat under your own buyer organisation's folder on the left hand side
  2. Once located, click the three dot menu option next to it and select Edit
  3. From within the attribute, you can then edit any of the attribute information such as the description or mapping options, as well as adding or removing any attributes using the search bar to locate new attributes and the 'X' next to any existing attributes to remove them:
  4. Once you have made the required changes, ensure you click Update mapping to save your changes.

How do I delete a mapping?

  1. Locate the mapping in question within the Attribute Editor on your marketplace. It will always be sat under your own buyer organisation's folder on the left hand side
  2. Once located, click the three dot menu option next to it and select Delete
  3. On the pop-up, confirm the deletion by clicking Delete again
  4. This will instantly remove the mapping from the system. If the mapping was visible to end-users this will disappear, as well as any reporting that was in place via Insights.
