Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Insights FAQ document

The ESG Insights dashboard and collection of reports allows a user to answer a number of questions that assist in implementing an ESG strategy. These questions cover tracking the use of significant attribute data and monitoring the resulting ESG spend in Purchasing (formerly Marketplace) orders.

Below are some typical questions and guidance on how to use the Insights to obtain answers. All of these reports are accessed by logging into Purchasing, entering Insights and clicking on the ESG Dashboard in the menu:

How do I find out which product attributes have been used by buyers ?

There are two types of attributes which suppliers can use, ‘product level’ and ‘supplier level’.

  • Product level attributes are associated with individual catalogue items (they can be Global Attributes or Supplier Attributes)
  • Supplier level attributes which are associated at supplier company level (these are always Global Attributes).

Buyers will create mappings as they choose which of these attributes to use / display to their end users.

The ESG dashboard contains two overviews that summarise the number of attributes of each type that have been used:

For example, the below screenshot shows that 24 product attributes have been used in some way by 4 buyers:

Click on the overview to view more detailed information about this data:

This report shows the specific attributes for ESG that have been used and which buyers have used them.

You can filter by buyer to find attributes used by a specific buyer or filter by an attribute to see all buyers that have used that attribute.

Which buyers are using organisational level ESG data?

From the main ESG dashboard, the Global OrgLevel Attributes element shows that 4 Global Attributes at supplier / organisation level have been used by buyers:

Drilling into this will show Global Attributes which have been used by buyers, and how many have been approved and made them available to end users.

Clicking on the number of buyers approved will open a popup that lists the specific buyers using the attribute.

If the 'Attribute In Use?' column indicates 'No' then this means it has not yet been added to the buyers data mapping to display to end users.

How much of my catalogue has been tagged with ESG data?

The dashboard element Product Level Attributes summarises how many of your catalogue items have been tagged with ESG attributes:

The above shows a catalogue with 15 items, 4 of which have been tagged.

To obtain the details of item tagging, use the catalogue export functionality within the main supplier portal which will include details of which attributes have been used in your catalogue and which items have been tagged with them.

What do my ESG vs. non-ESG orders look like over the last 12 months?

The main ESG dashboard shows the value of ESG orders vs non-ESG catalogue orders over the last year:

Clicking on the summary element opens the drill through. This gives a picture of how ESG orders vs non-ESG orders has varied over the last 12 months:

Filters can be used to focus the report on specific buyers, time periods or categories. The ESG Attributes filter can show the orders profile for specific product attributes your organisation has used. Item Type defaults to catalogue only as only these orders can contain ESG data. However additional order types can be included which will then be included in non-ESG orders grouping.

The table found below the graph (as seen in the screenshot above) shows the details of purchase orders and how they each contribute to the ESG vs non-ESG split. Exports of these purchase orders (at PO or order line level) can be generated from here.

What if I don't see any data on reports?

If you see the following screen:

It means that your organisation has not provided any ESG data as part of the catalogue upload process. Please refer to the guide on setting up data here.

If you see this screen:

It means that your company is not associated with any ESG organisational data. For a guide to associating your company with the available attributes, click here.
